The file VARCHGS.DAT is a record of changes to your system set up. If somebody makes a change by mistake, this file will allow us to fix the problem.

Changes to account's charge statement balance. An account's charge statement balance is the main data that affects how much an account owes you. Your end of day report lists the sum of all account's charge statement balances. If somebody changes an account's charge statement balance, that sum will change and it is easy to spot.

Every time somebody types the ENTER key on your system, the system records what was typed. If some problem appears during the day, it will show up on this keystroke file. We can look at this file and tell you what workstation did what and when they did it.

You can have your end of day report list changes to Number On Hand during the day.  You can run a report showing changes to Number On Hand between a beginning and ending date. If you are interested in changes to Number On Hand for one part number, you can display that data on the screen. This option and the report showing changes to Number On Hand between a beginning and ending date are password protected.

Clerks sometimes sell an item to a friend using a cash sale to a nontaxable account. Usually these nontaxable charge accounts get reduced pricing. You, the owner, lose money on the sale price. More important, the tax collection agencies look for cash nontaxable sales to charge accounts. Unless these sales can be proved to be valid nontaxable sales, the store will have to pay the taxes plus interest and penalties.
